Unfortunately the data analysed for the report was based on a very small number and thus doesn't reflect what the VTA knows of the accessibility area/service of the CPV industry.
It advised that the report was showing that there is a huge surplus of WAT drivers – 5.5 to every WAT vehicle – however the VTA contend that this figure is misleading. Even though there are 4,400 drivers trained as WAT drivers (for only 800 wheelchair accessible vehicles) the VTA believe a more accurate figure is 1.5 active drivers per WAV taxi (ie around 1200 drivers). Therefore because the data-set is small and not truly reflective of the industry (as disclosed in the last paragraph of the report) VTA advise that industry stakeholders should be very careful in drawing any conclusions from information contained in the report.
