Building a Cohesive National Network
Transport Alliance Australia (TAA) is an alliance of individuals and entities with an interest in the Australian commercial passenger transport sector.

This includes drivers, owners, operators, networks, booking service providers, depots, fleets, associations, industry services and suppliers.

TAA has its roots in the Victorian Hire Car and Taxi industry. As pressures were put on the industry by the illegal operations of Uber, and as the Victorian government tried and failed to adequately address these issues, the forerunner of TAA, the VHCA, was reinvigorated by Rod Barton and André Baruch.

Uber Driver with worst speeding history Magistrate has seen allowed to keep Licence
Uber driver, Michael Lederman, 65, has the worst speeding history a magistrate has ever seen yet has been allowed to keep his licence.

Lederman created four fake identities in attempt to avoid paying any speeding fines. He signed statutory declarations claiming that 'those drivers' were responsible for the speeding, when he got his total of nine speeding notices and one infringement for failing to stop at a red light.

Back Door Deal puts vulnerable Victorians at risk
Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV) has announced the changes to the state’s Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) to allow Uber’s casual rideshare drivers to transport aged, elderly and incapacitated people.

The $60 million MPTP provides a subsidy for vulnerable and disabled people who are unable to use public transport, paying half the cost of a taxi trip up to the value of $60.

Until recently, the scheme relied on regulated, accredited taxis, including specialist vehicles for wheelchair and incapacitated passengers.

Driver's Accreditation – A Right or Privilege?

Driver's Accreditation – A Right or Privilege?
I first got my driver’s licence – legally – as a 15 year old in New Zealand. While we all thought that driving was a right, a rite of passage if you will, the authorities thought differently and drummed it into us that driving was a privilege – and that it came with great responsibilities.

We were taught about the absolute power and danger that we were in control of, trying to master a beast that weighed approximately a tonne and that only responded to our inputs. We were taught about the consequences of our actions – how and when to brake, how to steer etc.

MPTP Fraud

 MPTP Fraud
The Victoria Regulator (CPVV) recognises that there is fraud being committed within the Multi-Purpose Taxi Program (same as TSS in other states) and says that any driver who abuses the system could expect significant consequences.

Whilst CPV Driver MPTP fraud will apparently be prevented by Uber's software – there is nothing to stop friends and family of the MPTP cardholder (the citizen who qualifies for MPTP 50% subsidised trips) from using the MPTP cardholder's Uber account. And the taxpayers will be paying for this!

The Government must certainly undertake due diligence

The Government must certainly undertake due diligence
Early this week Rod Barton MP was successful in raising a motion requesting that the CPVV hand over documents showing the rationale, evidence and results from Uber’s Multi-Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) trial.

The MPTP supports individuals with severe and permanent disabilities by offering subsided taxi fares to eligible members. The welfare and security of our most vulnerable citizens is at risk if Uber has access to this work under the MPTP scheme.

CPVV undertook a Trial of the MPTP Scheme with Uber in geelong

CPVV undertook a Trial of the MPTP Scheme with Uber
The CPVV undertook a trial of the MPTP scheme with Uber in Geelong from 22 March to 31 May 2020 – at the start of Victoria's COVID-19 lockdown.

The subsequent results of the government orchestrated trial, where they judged Uber's services, are BASED ON 170 TRIPS conducted during this period.

This works out to be a sample size of LESS THAN 0.15% of the average MPTP trips during October and November 2020 - not 5%, not 10%, not 20%, but LESS THAN 0.15%.  How is this data sufficient to make a judgement call?

CPVV Partners With Uber to Deliver the MPTP… Has it learned nothing?

CPVV partners with Uber to deliver the MPTP... Has it learned nothing?
Rod Barton MP condemns the Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV) for partnering with Uber to deliver the Multi-Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP).

The MPTP assists with the travel needs of people with accessibility and mobility needs by offering subsidised taxi fares. This program is an essential service that exists to ensure that everyone can access safe and efficient transport, especially those most vulnerable.

For years, taxis have delivered the MPTP, undertaking training that allows drivers to transport vulnerable groups. This is a program that has long been built on trust, flexibility and safety.

Ridiculous! CPVV is allowing Uber to participate in the MPTP system

CPVV is allowing Uber to participate in the MPTP System
The Victorian Regulator (CPVV) has announced that it has PARTNERED with Uber and is allowing Uber to participate in the MPTP system – the subsidy scheme that allows people with a severe or permanent disability to get a 50% subsidy when travelling in taxis.  How ridiculous!!

There are so many things wrong with this.  Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll, how can you condone this action?  How can you allow the Regulator to decimate the taxi industry?

Wasn’t it bad enough that the Victorian government allowed Uber to operate illegally for 3 years and infiltrate the Victorian taxi and hire car industry?  But now you have hit them in the guts again.
